DETAILS | NGC1543 is a barred spiral galaxy whose spiral arms have formed a ring. The ring in this image is very faint. One theory suggests that a ring galaxy might form when another galaxy passes through it, however it could be that an external ring of dark matter holds the ring in its gravitational field ... The point of equilibrium between the two fields is at about the middle of the dark ring immediately circling the inner core. |
