DETAILS NGC4038 and 4039 also known as the 'Antennae' are a pair of interacting spiral galaxies. Supernovae SN 1921A, SN 1974E, SN 2004gt, SN 2007sr SN 2013dk occurred in in this region. There are many Infrared and xRay sources around and within this interaction. The interaction has caused New Star forming regions to develop and these are characterised in this image, as the very bright areas. Each blob might contain tens of thousands of young stars.
